What is a Claude Project? A plain-English guide for mortgage and real estate pros

Short answer

A Project is a workspace inside Claude where you save instructions and reference files once. Every chat you start inside it already knows your voice, your market and your documents. For a loan officer or agent, it turns a general chatbot into an assistant that sounds like you and knows your business. ChatGPT has a similar feature, also called Projects.

The three parts of a Project

  • Instructions. A standing brief: who you are, who you serve, how you write, what to avoid.
  • Knowledge files. Documents the assistant can reference: your bio, scripts, public guidelines, service area notes.
  • Chats. Every conversation inside the Project starts with the instructions and files already loaded.

What to put in it

Good material is anything you'd hand a new assistant on their first day, minus client data:

  • A short bio and how you like to sound (casual, local, no jargon)
  • Your service area and the loan or property types you focus on
  • Scripts and templates you already use
  • Public agency or investor guidelines you reference often
  • Rules: no rates, no promises, drafts only

Leave out borrower files, client personal information and anything your company hasn't approved for AI.

Example: a Realtor Partner Assistant

  1. Create a new Project and name it "Realtor Partner Assistant."
  2. Write or dictate your instructions: "I'm a loan officer in [your county]. I work with listing and buyer agents. Write short, friendly texts in my voice. Never mention rates or numbers. Always give two versions and never send anything."
  3. Upload a one-page voice sample and your service area notes.
  4. Ask for your first draft: a follow-up to an agent after their open house.
  5. Refine it. Tell it what you'd change. Save the best lines back into your instructions.

Every device you use

A Project lives in your account, so one you build on your laptop is there on your phone when you sign in. Build it once in a workshop and it's waiting at your desk on Monday.

Limits to know

  • It can be wrong. Check anything factual against the source document.
  • It only knows what you give it and what it was trained on. Upload the guideline instead of asking from memory.
  • Features and plan limits change. Check current details in the app.
